Welcome to our live coverage of Day 9 of the Commonwealth Games.
It has started raining gold medals again for the Aussie athletes in Birmingham. The medals were expected to start drying up for Australia in the final days of the Games, but instead our athletes have gone and picked up some gold medals nobody saw coming.
Australia’s track athletes will be hoping to continue the success on Sunday morning with some of the biggest events of the Games scheduled for Alexander Stadium. It’s also a blockbuster night in the cricket, hockey and beach volleyball.
Overnight, Ollie Hoare stunned the world with a run for the ages, toppling two world champs as he came from the clouds to win a historic gold medal in the 1500m. However, there was also disaster for our 4x100m relay team with Rohan Browning left broken hearted after stumbling at the final change in the relay heat, costing Australia a place in the final.
Australia has picked up six gold medals, two silvers and a bronze today – and there is still plenty to come.
